Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Systems that create added value

These homes are already benefiting from Solar Energy

IBC SOLAR’s photovoltaic and storage solutions are precisely tailored to each homes individual consumption profile. Take a look at a few projects that our customers have realised for homes of different sizes.

Residential - Battery Backup System

Homeowner, Zambia

The Challenge:

A residential household in Zambia with the intention of stabilizing power supply and having a clean energy source at the same time.

The Solution:

The 3 kwp solar system provides the house with clean power. At the same time, the back-up is powering essentials loads like lights, water pump, TV, and other sockets during frequent power outages. Solar energy production is around 12kWh per day, covering around 30% of household usage.

The Result:

Installation done by – Synergy Zambia

  • 6kW Sunny Island
  • 3kw Sunny Boy
  • 2 x BMZ 7.0

Hybrid Solar System

Johannesburg, South Africa

The Challenge:

This embedded generation system in Johannesburg, Gauteng is connected to the Eskom grid. This type of system is called back-up system because it works like a Diesel generator and provides electricity during power failure. Another name is hybrid system because it combines the power of the grid with solar energy stored in batteries.

The Solution:

The systems does not only avoid total power failure during load shedding, it also cuts down electricity costs. Electricity costs are reduced by production of electricity by sun energy. The photovoltaic plant produces the energy for a fixed price per kWh and makes the owner more independent from Eskom and energy price increase. This kind of solar system provides cheap electricity and the sun power creates independence.

The Result:

If you want a solar system to reduce costs only, a pure grid-tied PV system is a good alternative. By only installing the PV panels and no batteries you can save costs. The cost price of the system is lower and you save money during operation by avoiding costs for Eskom electricity.

PV Renting Pilot Project - Atlantic Gold Guesthouse

Camps Bay, Cape Town, Western Cape

The Challenge:

The lack of financing options is one of the main obstacles to the implementation of small-scale photovoltaic systems in South Africa. The German company maxx I solar & energie GmbH & Co. KG has experience with PV Renting  projects in Germany. Thanks to the dena Renewable  Energy Solutions Programme the maxx group was able to transfer the PV Renting approach to South Africa. With Centrafin maxx identified a company specialised in equipment renting and even offers with its “Financing Green Solutions” programme a tool to finance PV systems.

The Solution:

PV renting means, one entity invests in a PV system (system owner) and rents the system to a second entity (system operator). The system operator uses the electricity and pays a monthly rent to the system owner. Furthermore, the system owner gets the option to buy the system after 3–10 years (similar to car leasing).

The Result:

The maxx group, Centrafin and the maxx I team installer RED Engineering jointly developed a package (PV system and financing) for the Atlantic Gold Guesthouse and thus allowed the installation of a 14 kWp pilot project in April 2016. The PV system will substitute expensive grid electricity, which costs the guesthouse 1.87 ZAR/kWh excl. VAT. The guesthouse will substitute approximately 23,400 kWh/year with solar power.

  • System Type: Embedded Generation (SSEG)
  • PV Generator Capacity: 14 kWp
  • Yield of approx. 1,520 kWh per year
  • Performance Ratio: 93.5%

Residential PV System

Domestic solar photovoltaic energy solution

The Challenge:

This Grid-tied PV system or embedded generation system in Johannesburg, Gauteng was installed to cut down electricity costs. It enables the house owner to reduce electricity costs by production of electricity by sun energy.

The Solution:

The photovoltaic plant produces the energy for a fixed price per kWh and makes the owner more independent from Eskom and energy price increase. This kind of solar system provides cheap electricity and the sun power creates independence. To cure load shedding an embedded generation system like this one can be extended. Depending on the household's consumption, a battery bank with back-up function is added.

The Result:

During a power failure the battery works as a back-up just as a Diesel generator and electricity can be used even though the public grid fails.
